Christ-Centered Yoga Focusing on the physical elements of yoga: poses, breathing & stillness, my de-mystified yoga practice has given me deeper, more meaningful quiet times with God. Wanting to share this with others, Christ-Centered YogaXoga classes were created, where scripture verses related to a theme (such as peace, hope, waiting for the Lord) are read throughout the class. When we’re completely present, we’re able to hear and understand God’s Word in a deeper way. Susan Bordenchircher writes, “You have set aside the baggage of your past and thrown out the agenda of your future; now you are ready to bask in the comforting glow of the presence of God.” What’s the most likely response that someone gives when you ask “how are you?” I’M BUSY! It’s true – we are all so busy that we barely have time to check in with ourselves, let alone God. And yes, I’m speaking from experience! By setting these things aside, we can tune our mind, body & spirit toward God. We can learn to listen, as well as talk to God. Our yoga practice can allow us to be still and know that He is God (Ps. 46:10). While some may speak of emptying your mind with yoga, and perhaps leaving yourself vulnerable to outside forces, we’re not emptying; just changing the focus. Instead of dwelling on the worry and busyness of the day, we’re focusing on Christ. We’re focusing on grace. On love. On strength. You get the idea… With this in mind, I’ve made available printable YogaXoga Christ-Centered Practice Guides for your home practice and/or quiet time. Choose a theme that strikes you and reflect on the verses while holding poses and during relaxation. Or, meditate on one particular verse throughout your practice.
New guides will be available frequently, so check back often.
Enjoy & be well, Heidi
